Overview
Benefits finder is a digital feature that has helped more than 1 million CommBank customers claim over $481 million in unclaimed money, payments and rebates since it launched in September 2019.
Benefits FinderIn response to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, CommBank added a small number of business benefits to Benefits finder to help Australian businesses. These were general benefits that some businesses may be elgible for.
A dramatic uplift of Benefits finder feature was done to allow business customers to be taken on a personalised journey to identify benefits relevant to them.
At launch, there were 42 business grants, rebates and concessions covering a range of support areas such as employment, crisis, growth, education and environmental.
The most common business benefits include:
- NSW Covid Business Support Grant
- Skill Finder business courses
- Youth Jobs Path
- New Enterprise Incentive Scheme
- Small business fees & charges rebate

How
My role in this project was to lead the build of the front-end changes, as I was working within a back-end focused team.
- My team extended on the existing questionnaire feature to include questions specific to business customers.
- We uplifted the business benefits dashboard to allow for benefit categories to be filtered.
- Improvements were also added to the display of benefit details and instructions on how to claim them.
- There were major challenges in extending the existing codebase to integrate the business questions, while making sure that existing functionality was not affected.
I started work on this project in late May 2021 and the deadline to launch this capability was before the end of financial year (30 June 2021), which was successfully met (with a bit of time to spare).
Outcome
Since release, over 100,000 Australian businesses have visited the Benefits finder for Business dashboard.
This has resulted in over 12,500 businesses initiating claims for over $93 million (source).
